MedSoc in the New Year

AMATEUR TRANSPLANTS AT GKT

FRI 16TH Jan

Amateur Transplants, a group who have been critically aclaimed as 'wonderfully funny', 'superbly politically incorrect' (Scotsman) and 'bourgeois brats' (TimeOut), are performing for one night only at GKT!

THE MEDSOC HALFWAY DINNER 2009

Keep your eyes peeled for news on the halfway dinner, tickets will be limited this year

The Halfway Dinner is a glamorous, prestigious event which gives the third year medics a chance to celebrate the fact that we'll soon be half way through our medical studies (how did that happen?!). The ball will take place in early 2009 at a swanky location in London - there will be:

Champagne reception
Three course sit down dinner and dancing

...with of course all the fun and frivolity you'd expect. Since we're all dotted around the place on various rotations, this is a great chance to get everyone together for a good old knees up.

Winners of the All London United Hospitals Comedy Revue are back bringing BAD TASTE medical comedy to the Greenwood theatre. Afterparty tickets are also available.

KCL CHARITY DIWALI SHOW 2008

Britains largest student organised Show is back and set to be bigger and better than ever before. Held at the prestigious Barbican Centre, the Show will present the very best of student talent. The Afterparty is held at London's most premier and largest Nightclubs, - Fabric. Tickets go on sale from Wednesday 5th November. Tickets will be sold every lunchtime from 12pm - 2pm, in the BOARDROOM, SPIT, GUYS CAMPUS. Tickets are priced at £25, £30, £35 and £40. This is your opportunity to don your scrubs and pretend you're a doctor. All of our fellow London Medic/dentists/health students all go clubbing, we exchange some banter, occasionally bodily fluids and we dance the night away. We've got the whole, yes the WHOLE of Ministry to dance around in so this is definitely not one to miss.

Tickets are £6 and are available from the Student Centres or Ticketweb - CLICK HERE but hurry because our school's allocation is limited!!!

Fashion Show Committee and Models

We will be holding a meeting on THURSDAY the 16th of October at 6.15pm in classroom 8, Hodgkin Building. This meeting will brief you on how the committee will work and how you can get involved.

And for those budding models among us, the modelling auditions will be held on Tuesday 14th Oct at 6pm, Meet outside the Hodgkin Buiding and girls, don't forget your heels!!!

Hello and Welcome to Kings College London and the famous Guy's, King's and St.Thomas' (GKT) Hospitals School of Medicine and Health Sciences - The finest hospitals in the land. First and foremost we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your recent exam success and for making it into medical/health school, be proud of yourself, you have a great things ahead of you.

My name is Becky Samuels and I am the MedSoc President, along with my committee we're here to ensure that you have extraordinary amounts of fun and to point you in the right direction if things go a little astray. First of all time to dispell a common misconception, MedSoc (despite the misleading name) is not just for medical students, we are here for all Guy's students! We run the major events for the medical and health schools and represent your views to the college and to KCLSU. So, make sure everyone knows that we're here for everyone, the more the merrier we say, you can even bring those Strandies along if you want to.

If there is one point we'd like to stress more than any other it's ENJOY YOURSELF, exams aren't until May so bring plenty of fancy dress and a sense of humour and we can guarantee you'll get the most out of you time at GKT. Guy's is renowned for its community spirit and so to get you kick started and integrated in we have some great events planned for freshers week. MedSoc freshers events are your best opportunity to meet your future friends and colleagues and talk to the older years about your time ahead. This year we are introducing a discount scheme which, for a small fee, gets you into every single event all year round for discounted rates, it's well worth getting so buy it when you buy your events tickets to start saving money immediately.

So that just leaves me to say, enjoy the guide to Medical and Health School, try to come along to all of the events and I look forward to meeting you all in September.

We are currently looking for people to join our committee as we are expanding our

We need

Writers - For light hearted satirical comment on medical school news and events.

Photographer - Someone to take loads of photos and create an online gallery of the year at Guy's. Unfortunately we can't provide a camera but we can cover reasonable costs incurred.

Merchandise Officer - Expanding and monitoring our merchandising. There is huge room for expansion in this area so could be an exciting project to take on.

Careers Officer - Again there is massive room for expansion. Duties will include organising talks, revision sessions, help and advice fora for health students applying for medicine & dentistry, help for final year applications.
